## Dotfiles management

Any changes to dotfiles (shell configs, app configs, scripts, etc. that live
under `~/.dotfiles`) must be made by editing the files inside the
`~/.dotfiles` repo itself, NOT by editing the symlinked target files in place.

- `~/.dotfiles` uses a symlink system (see `link.sh` / `link-root.sh`) to
link its contents into their expected locations (e.g. `~/.config/*`,
  `~/.vimrc`, etc.).
- Always locate and edit the source file under `~/.dotfiles`, then verify
the symlink is in place (run `~/.dotfiles/link.sh` if a new file needs to
  be linked).
- After making changes, consider committing them in the `~/.dotfiles` git
  repo.
